Vaccination guidance in India generally references two related schedules. Both are considered when planning your child's vaccination.
National Immunization Schedule (NIS)
The Government of India's free immunization programme, delivered through government hospitals and health centres. It covers vaccines against diseases considered a significant public health priority nationally.
IAP Recommended Schedule
Published by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and reviewed periodically. It builds on the National Immunization Schedule and includes additional vaccines that many pediatricians recommend for broader protection.
Catch-up Vaccination
When a child has missed one or more scheduled vaccines, a catch-up plan is used to bring them up to date safely, rather than restarting the schedule. The right catch-up approach depends on the child's age and which vaccines were missed.
